Description
The embedding flange is what you need if the heater is going to sit partly recessed into the bench or platform rather than free-standing on the floor. It caps the cut edges of the woodwork around the heater in a single stainless frame.
Flange D follows the DROP’s curve. On a recessed DROP the flange is what makes the heater read as built into the bench rather than dropped through a hole in it — the whole point of recessing it.
Without it you are looking at raw sawn timber against a hot appliance — the joint that always looks unfinished no matter how carefully the carpentry was done, and the one that darkens first. The flange covers the tolerance you needed to leave for the cut-out.
Decide on recessed installation before the bench is built: the cut-out has to be sized to the flange, not the other way round.
