Manufacturing Quality
With over 11 years of experience, Eco Hearth operates as a European manufacturer focused on craftsmanship, precision, and full in-house production. We monitor every stage, from selecting raw timber to final assembly, ensuring consistent durability, refined finishing, and long-lasting performance in every sauna.
What is Thermally Modified Wood
For our saunas, we use thermally modified wood — timber that undergoes heat treatment without chemicals. The process involves slowly “baking” the wood in a kiln at 215 °C for 5 days. The result:
- Increased strength and stability of the wood
- Enhanced resistance to decay and moisture
- Reduced tendency to warp or shrink
- Beautiful natural appearance preserved for decades
This ensures your sauna will look as good in 30 years as it does on the first day. You invest once and get decades of use — not a cabin that greys, cracks and needs replacing in a few seasons. ThermoWood holds its strength and its looks, so your investment keeps paying off year after year.
Single-Wall ThermoWood Barrel — the classic shape, scaled up
A barrel sauna heats faster and more evenly than any other design. The rounded ceiling guides hot air in a natural loop around the room, so there are no cold corners and no wasted volume. In this large 4.3 m model that even heat reaches across the full length of the barrel, comfortably warming a full bench of guests. We build it entirely from 40 mm solid thermally modified timber: denser, drier and lower in thermal conductivity than untreated wood, so the walls absorb heat, hold it, and release it gently while breathing naturally and staying dry.
As with all our saunas, the body is paired with a double-glazed end wall and a tempered glass door that seal the warmth inside, with the heater sized to the room’s volume for fast, steady heat. A short covered porch at the entrance keeps the doorway sheltered and adds a finished, classic look.
Barrel Kit Assembly — flat-pack, not board-by-board
The barrel arrives as a pre-cut kit: machined wall staves, two solid round end walls, the bench frames and steel tension bands. Every part is cut to fit — you lay the staves over the cradle, raise the round front and back walls, then draw the steel bands tight to lock the whole barrel into one rigid shell. No saw, no cutting, no guesswork. It goes together like flat-pack furniture — an assembly kit, not a hardcore DIY project. Two people assemble it in a single day, no prior experience needed.
Tools you need:
- Drill-driver
- Hammer
- Spirit level
- Tape measure
- Wrench and bit set
Two Full-Length Benches — room to lie down
Inside, two benches run the full 3 580 mm length of the barrel — 600 mm deep each, with backrests, seated 490 mm above the floor. At this length there’s enough room to lie down fully on either side, so the sauna works just as well for a relaxed solo session as for a group of five to six. The curved wall behind the benches follows your back naturally, and the central walkway leaves comfortable room to move and to place the heater.
Heating Options
Choose a wood-burning heater — natural steam, chimney included and stones provided — or an electric heater with fast, even heating, Wi-Fi control for scheduling and temperature, also supplied with stones. The heater is matched to this barrel’s volume for quick, even warm-up across the full length.
